Here’s Marco Arment on the raging debate surrounding the SOPA/PIPA bills:
The MPAA studios hate us. They hate us with region locks and unskippable screens and encryption and criminalization of fair use. They see us as stupid eyeballs with wallets, and they are entitled to a constant stream of our money. They despise us, and they certainly don’t respect us.
Yet when we watch their movies, we support them.
This is an excellent post from Marco worth reading from top to bottom.
I got into a slanging match when DEBILL (Digital Economy Bill) was rammed through parliament a couple years ago over here. Countless numbers of people were rising up on Twitter – threatening to pirate music, television shows and movies in protest at the legislation that won support from our elected officials. But there’s absolutely no excuse for pirating content. It does nothing to further the cause of any legitimate grievance you may have with new laws such as DEBILL, SOPA and PIPA.
