It sounds as though the arrival of a slew of IPTV players in the UK market has finally woken BSkyB up to the threat of facing some serious competition at last.
The company rapidly secured a dominant position in the pay television market since it launched it’s digital satellite television service more than two decades ago. Today it enjoys the broadcasting rights to the most prestigious sporting events, a wide range of exclusives with all the major Hollywood studios, and a lock on the most attractive television shows. The best its competitors can do is enter into licensing deals with the company to rebroadcast Sky channels across their own platforms.
But the times they are a-changin – maybe.
